In the first game of the day, the Tigers carried a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but the Cards rallied with two runs to win, 2-1.

The second game saw the teams bat the ball around. Detroit jumped out to a 4-0 lead, with Wenceel Perez hitting his third home run of the season in the second. However, St. Louis roared back with five runs in the top of the fifth, thanks to homers from Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson. The Bengals bounced with three more in the bottom half of the inning, with Perez hitting another dinger. Riley Greene hit an insurance homer in the seventh, as the Tigers came away with an 11-6 win.

Following the games, the Tigers are third in the American League Central, three games back of the first-place Cleveland Guardians. The Redbirds are tied for fourth in the National League Central with the Pittsburgh Pirates, four games behind the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers, who are tied for first.
